Additions Renovations: Cape Addition

Project Objective: This is the case of a simple addition. The basic suburban cape worked well for the clients–except for the kitchen, which was one of the smallest and most awkwardly located we’ve ever come across. The solution was to add a new, eat-in kitchen to the back of the house. In addition to providing a better kitchen, this addition served several of the clients’ other goals: It opened the house more to views of the backyard stream; it allowed for building a protected raised patio in the L-space it created; and as the back yard sloped down, we were able to provide the owner, an avid woodworker, with a shop below that included a covered entrance for bringing in valuable veneers.
